Kohunlich was discovered in 1967 and is one of the largest of the lesser known Mayan cities.

The name Kohunlich comes from the English Cohoon Ridge that refers to the palms, very common in Peten. The original name of the site is unknown. Kohunlich is formed by several architectural groups used by the Mayans for ceremonial and residential purposes.

We provide tours with certified guides.

The greatest treasures of Kohunlich are the six huge stucco heads called 'Mascarones de Kohunlich' that became the symbol of the site. They represent the Sun God, Kinich Ahau. The heads were covered by other buildings that have been removed during excavation.

This expedition also includes a visit to two other great sites called Dzibanche and Kinichna.

During the stay, we will stay in Chetumal. It was called Chac-Temal by the Mayans and is now the capital of the state of Quintana Roo.
